Virgo Songs From Musicals

  Virgo

Earth sign ruled by Mercury, which confers logical reasoning, intelligence, a lot of sensitivity, mental agility, analytical ability and observation power. Conservative and perfectionist, a virgo tends to worry too much and his difficult side can lead him to be overly critical and hard on others.

"Anything Goes"
Anything Goes
(Cole Porter)

"In olden days a glimpse of stockings
Was look down as something shocking
But now God knows
Anything goes (...)
The world has gone mad today
And good's bad today
And black's white today
The day's night today
And most guys today
That women prize today
Are just silly gigolos"
Anything Goes is one of Cole Porter's masterpieces, one of the most celebrated composers of the twentieth century, a musical comedy about various mishaps on a transatlantic departing from New York to London. The musical premiered in 1934 and has has several revivals on Broadway, and had its script rewritten in all of them. It was also twice adapted for the screen. Ethel Merman starred the original stage production and the first film. Patti Lupone and Sutton Foster starred in two of the most recent productions.

Your positive traits: Modesty, intelligence and shyness. Virgos are rather reserved, but very affectionate, showing their feelings with delicate and uncommon attitudes. They present a conventional image. They usually marry, have children, build a family, since they are children of the earth element and therefore need well defined personal and professional lives.

Shortly after its Broadway premiere, Menken and Ashman's Little Shop of Horrors was adapted for film by Disney, starring Rick Moranis, with a different ending because the original one displeased test audiences. Ashman died in 1991 after writing the songs from The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and some from Aladdin, but Menken remains active and strong in the partnership with Disney, which has already earned him several Oscars. In Somewhere That's Green, Audrey dreams of a housewife's life in a traditional suburban family.

A fence of real chain link
A grill out on the patio
Disposal in the sink
A washer and a dryer
And an ironing machine
In a tract house that we share
Somewhere that's green"

They fit well for any job that requires attention to detail. They are critical and introspective, perfectionistic, meticulous. Virginians tend to be meticulous, practical and hardworking. They have great analytical ability and are reliable.

"Try Me"
She Loves Me
(Bock/Harnick)

"I have trained myself
Going shelf by shelf
And I know every item in the store
Every tube, jar, box, bottle
Carton and container
Where they are
What they cost
What they're for”
A romantic musical comedy that debuted at Boadway in 1963, She Loves Me is an adaptation of the Hungarian play Parfumerie, and tells the story of two lovers who haven't met yet and only interact through letters, oblivious to the fact that they work together and loathe each other. In Try Me, Arpad, a young employee from the store, tries to convince his boss to give him a promotion during his medical absence by listing all his qualities and accomplishments.

Virgo people are organized and hardworking. Work is, in fact, the main focus of life for most people of this sign. They are practical, and they do well in dealing with the public, in commerce, arts, education, among other things.

In 1975 A Chorus Line premiered on Broadway and soon became the musical sensation of the year, winning Tony awards and several stage versions around the world. The story about dancers longing for a last opportunity and their challenges during an audition for a Broadway show captivated the most diverse audiences. Enchanted
(Menken/Schwartz)

"Come my little friends
As we all sing a happy little working song
Merry little voices clear and strong
Come and roll your sleeves up
So that we can pitch in
Cleaning crud up in the kitchen
As we sing along"
Enchanted is a musical film in which Disney pokes fun on itself and its princesses, who wait for their prince charming on the white horse. Done in a stage musicals fashion, Enchanted was a worldwide box-office hit, and will likely earn its stage version soon. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz were responsible for the soundtrack. In Happy Working Song, shortly after arriving in New York and being welcomed by Robert in his messy apartment, Giselle pulls a Cinderella and decides to ask local animals to help her clean the house, just for fun.

Their personality usually creates difficulties in making friends because it makes them very selective. They are averse to vulgar people. Feel at ease in cultural settings or with intellectual people. They like to store knowledge, and are interested in analysis and research. When in disharmony, they can be submissive, nervous, pedantic, materialistic, solitary. They like music, from classic to new age, crafts, antiques, any practical activity.

One quality: Versatility
One flaw: Skepticism

The Princess and the Frog is a 2009 Disney animation that marks the introduction of the studio's first (and late) black princess. The story is based on the Grimm brothers tale The Frog Prince and is set in New Orleans, where hard-working Tiana dreams of owning her own restaurant. After kissing a prince who has been turned into a frog by a sorcerer, Tiana also becomes a frog and they have to find a way back to being human before it's too late. The soundtrack features original songs by Randy Newman, all in the traditional New Orleans jazz style. Almost There was nominated for an Oscar, and shows Tiana's focus on achieving her goals.

"Almost There"
The Princess and The Frog
(Newman)

"Ain't got time for messing around
And it's not my style
This old town can slow it down
People taking the easy way
I know exactly where I'm going
I'm getting closer and closer everyday
And I'm almost there"

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

"You never know how strong you are. Until your only alternative is to be strong."

"Shy"
Once Upon a Mattress
(Mary Rodgers/Marshall Barer)

"Someone's being bashful
That's no way to be
Not with me
Can't you see
That I am just as embarassed as you
And I can understand your point of view
I've always been shy
I confess that I'm shy
Can't you guess that this confident air
Is a mask that I wear
'Cause I'm shy?”

The musical Once Upon A Mattress debuted on Broadway in 1959, a free adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's The Princess and the Pea. The story is about an evil queen who enforces a law that no one in the kingdom can marry while the prince does not find a princess to marry, but she rejects all the princesses who appear. The musical received average reviews, but it was a hit with audiences. In Shy, the ill-mannered and flamboyant Princess Winnifred makes an entrance by climbing the castle's wall, and then looks for the prince around the kingdom, charming everyone except the queen.

Nobody died of hard work.

"The most important things are the hardest things to say."

The creators of South Park later originated the Broadway hit The Book of Mormon.

South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
(Shaiman/Parker)

"Times have changed
Our kids are getting worse
They won't obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse
Should we blame the government?
Or blame society?
Or should we blame the images on TV?"
